Welcome to Our Home

A Place for Healing

The Kita Center’s Home for Healing is designed to nurture connection, reflection, and resilience for individuals and families navigating the complex terrain of suicide loss and risk.

Surrounded by trees and water, every path, cabin, and communal space has been thoughtfully crafted to support healing. Each element reflects our commitment to the dual process of grief—honoring both the pain of loss and the pursuit of restoration—woven into every one of our programs.

Healing requires community, a sense of belonging, and spaces that invite both rest and play.

GRIEF AND JOY HAVE A PLACE HERE.

OUR CAMPUS

On gently sloping terrain in Acton, Maine, The Kita Center spans 28 acres of woodland, open fields, and shoreline along Loon Pond. Our campus combines comfortable cabins, creative studios, and versatile gathering spaces—supporting our own programs, mission-aligned partners, and community members who wish to rent the site.

Though rural in feel, our site is remarkably accessible—just under 2 hours from Boston, 1 hour from Portland, and only minutes from local restaurants, grocery stores, and other essential amenities.

Rental Use

Starting in 2026, areas of our campus will be available for seasonal day-use and overnight rentals, perfect for:

  • Community trainings, workshops

  • Camps, retreats, and school trips

  • Support groups and wellness gatherings

  • Commercial kitchen use

  • Personal events such as baby showers, funeral receptions

THE KITA COMMONS

& KITCHEN

Situated in the heart of campus with views of Loon Pond, the Kita Commons is a warm and welcoming gathering space that seats up to 100 guests indoors. With its tongue-and-groove cathedral ceilings, cozy electric fireplace, and two large garage doors that open to bring the outdoors in, the space offers Maine’s signature casual elegance. Perfect for shared meals, community events, workshops, or quiet reflection, the Commons invites connection and comfort. Just beyond the open doors, guests can gather at the nearby amphitheater for fireside conversations, outdoor sessions, or starlit storytelling.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The Loon Pond land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange among indigenous peoples for thousands of years and is the home of the Abenaki People. The Kita Center honors, recognizes and respects these peoples, especially the Abenaki, as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we gather today. In that spirit, today we will begin by acknowledging that we are guest in this land. We need to respect and help protect the lands within our use.

While we build our resilience through community, it is important to us to reflect on a greater future of inclusivity. Land acknowledgements are a way for us to reflect upon the duality of our work— while we work within our team, our community, and with our campers to promote greater inclusivity and abolish inequities.

The Kita Center is proud to support Abenaki Helping Abenaki, Inc.
